Maughan Mitchell were instructed by Sydenhams, the well known builders merchants, to advise in relation to their longstanding vacant Frome site, where they had a significant Empty Rates problem.

On the point of our instruction, significant works had been undertaken, with a certain amount still ongoing, with the property undergoing conversion from a single occupancy site, to two self-contained units.

Following negotiations with the Valuation Office, Maughan Mitchell were able to successfully delete the existing Rates Assessment, backdating to the start of work, going forward to the occupation of the separately created units. This followed legislation and the precedent of caselaw and in particular, a Supreme Court Judgement.

The Units are now in separate occupation as a manufacturing facility and an indoor climbing gym.
