Maughan Mitchell were instructed by JCL Group to assist with the Business Rates at one of their new pharmacies in Southsea, Portsmouth.

After inspecting the property, Maughan Mitchell believed that the Valuation Office had incorrectly measured the property, along with hugely overvaluing the space.

We therefore submitted a detailed case at the Challenge stage of the appeal process, outlining the relevant comparable assessments and rental evidence.  After lengthy discussions with the Valuation Office, it was agreed that both the 2017 and 2023 Rating Lists would reduce: from £137,000 to £59,500 and £150,000 to £61,000 Rateable Value.

Business Rate savings from our efforts totalled over £120,000.
