Simon commenced his career in private practice undertaking landlord and tenant work, prior to becoming Director of a Bristol based property investment company.

In 1992 he created ‘Simon Maughan & Associates’, an independent firm serving owners and occupiers of commercial property in lease advisory and acquisition but with an increasing focus on business rates issues.

He had a brief spell in 2008/09 heading Lambert Smith Hampton’s South Coast rating division, prior to opting to revert to independent status and forming the current Practice of ‘Maughan Mitchell’.

Simon is now considered one of the foremost rating surveyors in the region with considerable expertise gained over many years of practice in this sector and having successfully dealt with some very substantial cases.

Simon is a keen cyclist and recently completed a Lands End to John O Groats trip. He also enjoys the odd pint of real ale and supporting Bristol rugby club.
